The Evolution of the Portable Toilet

    My roommates and I always say how we wish we had a sink in our dorm room. It is always a pain to have to walk back and forth to the bathroom to either brush our teeth or spill something out. With this new product, this small contraption is space efficient and easy to use. Since dorm rooms are not conducive to rearranging, this portable sink does not need to be connected to any water source in order to work. It's that easy.
    At the beginning of this project, my idea was basically just a product instead of a business. By learning about all of the different things that go into building a business, i feel that my idea has grown tremendously. Throughout this process i learned about various technological advances that would really help my business thrive. Both the software and hardware chosen is very important when building a business. 
     Social media is one huge outlet that would help my business succeed. I can publicize my product on Facebook and twitter, which would help me target the specific audience i need. For competing businesses, these days its extremely important to stay up to date with the various social media sites. Social media sites are not only for connecting with consumers but also for updating them with new products as well as show pictures and create a conversation about your brand. 
     One thing that is very important that i did not know before is that when picking hardware you need to  buy the top of the line CPU since it is the part of the computer that controls the overall computing power and manages most of the computer operations. Another part that is essential is the ALU. This part of the processor performs the arithmetic functions of the business. This is extremely important when processing transactions. 
     Whenever building a business it is really important to know whose out there and who has a similar product that can potentially hurt your business. In doing the research for this, i noticed that there were similar products but we both had different target audiences. In comparing both of our ideas, i also learned a lot of things that could help mine prosper. Also i learned through this that specific software can help simplify things, such as photoshop. Photoshop is important when creating a logo as well as for editing pictures.

     As said previously, my company, as well as most all other companies is run by computers. Computers always have glitches and problems but a way to avoid these problems is by keeping your computer security updated. Computer security is meant to protect ones computer from malware, which can consist of computer viruses, worms, trojans, spyware as well as many other things. These bugs could create problems not just for the computer but also for the company. By not updating the computer regularly, it makes it easier for computer hackers to obtain information that can potentially hurt the business. 

     A way to avoid these problems from happening is to hire an expert in cryptography. Cryptography is "the practice and study of techniques for secure communication in the presence of an adversary." This person would be able to tell what is wrong with the software and if there are any flaws that need to be fixed in order to run a secure and trustworthy business. Potential bad things that could happen if we did not have anti-malware software is that customer information could be leaked and fraudulent behavior may result.

     Operating systems are crucial in order to run any successful business. An operating system manages the hardware and software of a system and acts as an intermediary. Operating systems can either be opened or closed which both have some major advantages. All programs are built from an operating system, so the software we use to tract client data and orders is through an operating system. 
     Open operating systems such as firefox, google chrome, and android, have available source codes which allows anyone to modify the program. After it has been modified, the programmer must re-release it out. Doing this allows the program to become updated more frequently due to the different types of people working on it. Our company would run on a stand alone operating system which carries windows 7 and mac os x. 

Photoshop and Cloud Computing

     The basis to any brand is its logo. Its what allows consumers to recognize and distinguish one company from another. Photoshop is one of the best ways to make a logo. Photoshop allows you to create and also edit images. It also allows you to add different effects to the image to make it a little different. For my company, photoshop would be a huge asset in order for us to also edit pictures we might upload to our website in order to appeal to our audience. 
    Cloud Computing would be essential for my business considering is it run all through computers. If something were to happen to our records and information, our business would potentially be in danger. With cloud computing we would be guaranteed that our information is accessible at all times, even in the case of a computer crashing. Also with cloud computing, it makes it easier for our files and data to be accessed at other locations other than our main office. This is helpful if we ever expand our company.

     Sebastian Anthony is an English blogger, blogging primarily about technology. Him being very interested in taking things apart and putting them back together, led him to becoming an engineer.      Sebastian blogs mostly about new innovations in technology. Topics range from Mozilla partnering up with LG, to a Metratronic Chip Replacing Electricity. The blog post i found most interesting was his post on the Android-powered Google Glasses that will come out at the end of 2012. The glasses will have a front camera, gps, and full array of movement sensors. Overall his blogging style is really good and informative. Since I don't consider myself a "techie," a few of his blog posts i find to be extremely boring, however the majority of them are really interested and grab my attention. In a couple of his posts he mentions David. I don't know who David is just by reading his blog so i think he should clarify that. 

There's No Such Thing as Competition

     There are other products that may be similar to mine, however, it is the fact that my products target audience is for college students that separates these two versions. The BBB (Better Business Bureau), came out with portable sinks designed for preschool, healthcare, classroom purposes, baby changing, and food service. For all of these situations, there is a different design of the sink ranging from a bigger counter top, to a smaller one. Also the heights of the sinks vary due to the environment it is used in. 
     Another consumer that makes portable sinks is Ozark River. The biggest difference between my product and all other competing products is the price. Since mine is made for college students, the price point is one of the most important factors. My product is a couple hundred dollars, where as the other ones can cost up to $2,000. In addition my product would be a little more appealing to the eye, considering its meant for a college dorm room whereas the other ones are meant for a more professional environment. Although in theory these are two very similar products, my portable sink reaches a completely different audience, and almost creates a different use.

     It would be hard for any business to run without the use of technology. Not only does this business need computers to log sales and consumer data, but we need proper hardware to support the needs of our business. The main component of our systems unit that needs to be top of the line is the central processing unit (CPU) because this impacts the overall computing power and manages most of a computers operations. If the CPU goes down, than that can affect our business sales dramatically. It would be wise for us to purchase a multi-core processor because it would increase the overall performance of our computer. It is better for us to splurge on a higher quality CPU, because there is nothing worse than having technology fail on you. 
     Another part of the processor that is essential for this business is the arithmetic logic unit (ALU). This part of the system performs arithmetic, comparisons and other operations. This can be useful when comparing the amount of sales from month to month. In addition this saves us a lot of time when determining how much employees need to be paid, depending on how much they worked over time. Overall, my company would not be able to run if all parts of the systems unit were not there to help simplify the many tasks that come with owning a business.
